Toronto Coffee and Code Returns!

09 Jul

joeydevillaHey Folks, our dear friend Joey deVilla [@AccordionGuy]  from Microsoft Canada will be hosting his very own Coffee and Code Tomorrow (Friday July 9th) at King and Yonge Starbucks.  Joey was the individual that inspired our Guelph Coffee and Code group, lead by Cory Fowler. Accompanying Joey, also from Microsoft Canada, Julia Stowell will be out networking with the locals.

Why Coffee and Code?

Joey deVilla is a Developer Evangelist for Microsoft Canada, he is a mobile worker and his job is to ensure that you as a Developer have the tools and the knowledge you need to do your job well.  Joey is an incredibly out going individual, very knowledgeable in both Microsoft and Open Source Development platforms  and an all around great guy to spend an afternoon with.

How Do I know I’m at a Coffee and Code?

Besides being surrounded by a large population of Geeks, Nerds, and other Technology enthusiasts you wouldn’t know the difference between a Coffee and Code and a regular trip to your local cafe.

As you are invading a business and taking up a good section of tables there is a certain courtesy to the coffee shop. Typically you should buy at least one large drink per hour, food is optional, but don’t forget that you are occupying space, and using their precious interwebz.

What do I do at a Coffee and Code?

It depends on what you are trying to achieve, I would say that a large portion of Coffee and Code is the ability to network with peers to build relationships with other like minds. However, it is the middle of the afternoon so you can go to grind away at whatever project you are working on, but don’t mind the odd interruption.  You could also go to ask questions, Coffee and Code will be filled with a lot of smart people, but be sure to thank whoever you ask for help.

Do you want a Chance to speak at a Microsoft Conference?

08 Jul

techdays_magnify Microsoft Canada is putting on Tech Days 2010 in Various Cities across Canada as explained in Microsoft Event: Tech Days 2010 Coming this Fall. This is just a gentle reminder that Microsoft is introducing a new Community based Track called ‘Local Flavours’. This track gives the ability for people in each geographical region to show off their something that has been being worked on in their community.

What’s the Value?

If you’re a Company that has a unique application that leverages to .NET Development Platform or is an Open Source Project you have the ability to showcase your application at an event that draws over 1000 attendees. If you’re a Community Group [like Guelph Coffee and Code] don’t worry you aren’t left out, you can also talk about your unique Project to gain awareness. Even if you’re an Individual Developer or IT Professional or Project Manager and would like to be involved, you can show off your skills.

How do I get Involved?

The process is simple all you need to do is submit an session abstract [descriptive explanation] of your interesting Story, or Expertise to the Canadian Tech Days Content Team.

When is this Tech Days Event anyways?
